Břízy pro lidi i bůvoly

V Praze prší a my vyrážíme až na samý okraj středočeského kraje, na bůvolí farmu v Ohaři. Pastviny jsou sice plné kaluží, ale vyčasilo se a my jsme připraveni - máme dobré boty a dobrou náladu.
Sešli jsme se dnes s veselou partou z JetBrains, abychom farmáři Alexovi pomohli vysadit 13 bříz ke třem kůlům. Sázíme je podél obecní cesty, ze které by stromy mohly pomoct vytáhnout nějakou vodu a zastínit ji během horkých letních dnů. Mimo jiné poskytnou útočiště mnoha organismům a budou tu krásné!
Alex nás vítá výborným občerstvením přímo z jeho produkce a my se posilněni vrháme na výsadbu. Zpočátku je terén kamenitý, ale s každým dalším stromem je půda kypřejší a naše tempo se tedy rapidně zvyšuje! Ryjeme, zatloukáme, udusáváme, sázíme. Užíváme si výhledů do krajiny a dobrovolníci nezahálí. Se stálým úsměvem na tváři máme za pár hodin hotovo a jdeme si užít sýrovou hostinu, kterou pro nás na farmě připravili. U ohně opékáme špekáčky a nechybí ani svařák. Zkrátka ideální podzimní den.

It’s raining in Prague, and we’re heading all the way to the edge of the Central Bohemian region — to the buffalo farm in Ohař. The pastures are full of puddles, but the weather has cleared up, and we’re ready — with good boots and good spirits.
Today we’ve met up with a cheerful crew from JetBrains to help farmer Alex plant 13 birch trees supported by three posts each. We’re planting them along the local road, where the trees could help absorb excess water and provide shade during hot summer days. They’ll also offer shelter to many organisms — and they’ll look beautiful here!
Alex welcomes us with excellent refreshments straight from his own production, and strengthened by that, we get to work. At first, the ground is rocky, but with each tree, the soil gets softer, and our pace picks up rapidly! We’re digging, hammering, tamping, planting. We enjoy the views of the surrounding countryside, and the volunteers are tireless. With smiles on our faces, we finish within a few hours and move on to enjoy a cheese feast prepared for us at the farm. By the fire, we roast sausages, sip mulled wine, and soak in the perfect autumn atmosphere.
